Wine Trails throughout the World
The seminar includes the history of wine, its place for world cultures as an intangible cultural heritage and the importance of this aspect for tourism, national and international wine market organization, education and career opportunities in this field.
Seyma Bas studied Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University and obtained her MBA with an emphasis on Luxury Brand Management, Food and Wine from INSEEC Business School in Bordeaux. She started her career focusing on international sales and took over the challenge of introducing Turkish Wines to different markets. She developed her experience in brand management in regions like Tuscany and Burgundy. Meanwhile she completed WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) Diploma program in London and she continues her journey as a Master of Wine Student which is known to be one of the hardest titles to gain in the world of wine. She regularly attends international wine competitions around the world as a Jury. Moreover, she writes about wine in her blog Dionysian Impulse (www.dionysianimpulse.net) which has been selected as the Best New Wine Blog in 2016. Today, she is based in Zurich; working on various projects through her company WineArt LLC with a young dynamic team. Apart from wine, she enjoys lindy hop and she is a big fan of Wim Wenders.

Defne Kadıoğlu, Ph.D., is an urban researcher focusing on the nexus between social inequality and neoliberal urban governance, more particularly on the relation between racism, class and gentrification. She was a 2015/16 Mercator-IPC Fellow. During her fellowship she conducted a study in Beyoğlu’s Tophane neighborhood on the impact of the gentrification process on the urban social fabric.
This seminar will address the cultural dimensions of urban transformation by addressing the question of how tourism and gentrification are connected. Moreover it will discuss the impact of the gentrification process on the urban social fabric, the way gentrification is perceived by residents and the forms of social exclusion and conflict occurring in gentrifying neighborhoods. Last but not least the seminar will debate how a decline of the tourism industry affects local populations and why sustainable urban planning is vital for both - residents and tourists.

This seminar will adress the relationship between tourism and industrial heritage by focusing on the adaptive-reuse and cultural routes. The issues related to transformation of post-industrial landscapes and revitalization will be discussed through their impacts on tourism by looking at the cases from Turkey and Europe.
Biography
Evinc Dogan is a PhD in Management and Development of Cultural Heritage obtained from IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca (Italy). She holds MSc in History of Architecture from Istanbul Technical University and BA in Tourism Management from Bogazici University. Currently, she is teaching at Akdeniz University-Department of Tourism Guidance. Her research interests include place marketing, city branding, visual culture, cultural heritage and tourism.

Dr. Bilge Terzioğlu worked as a research assistant at Ege University, where he earned his master's degree after graduating from Dokuz Eylül University Department of Economics in 2005. He has published articles on foreign direct investment and international trade. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2014 with his thesis "The Effect of Empathic Tendencies on Economic Behaviors That Take Care of Others". The new seminar series "Industry Seminars" by BU-Applied Tourism Administration and Research Center aims at stimulating discussions between university members (both students and faculty) and high profile industry managers.

Boğaziçi Tourism Administration 2005 graduate Oleg Croitoru who is currently the Principal Category Manager at Vodafone Luxembourg will talk about corporate travel strategies and technologies that are used in Vodafone to achieve company’s sustainability targets and also about the practical things the tourism industry can do more to positively impact the planet and the humanity.

Speaker Biography: Deniz Toprak continued his journey, which he started by teaching English in a village in Africa, by studying Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University. In addition to his international company experience, he added film and documentary production with the production of “Vona”. He established surf schools in the fishing towns of the Black Sea with the experience he gained from the surf hotel called Mellow Hostel, which he opened in Sri Lanka.
Raising generations that express themselves through surfing in the Black Sea region, where dreams, wind and waves meet, is now his greatest passion.

Fani Efthymiadou holds a Ph.D. degree in Hotel & Tourism Management from the School of Tourism Management, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship of the Cyprus University of Technology. Her research focuses on the sharing economy, women empowerment, and sustainability.
