International Year of Mountains 2022

The United Nations General Assembly declared the year 2022 as the “International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" to highlight the significance of mountain ecosystems from the sustainable development perspective. The year 2022 also marks the 20th anniversary from the first International Year ever devoted to mountains (International Year of Mountains 2002) as well as the 20th anniversary of the Mountain Partnership.
The Mountain Partnership is a United Nations voluntary alliance of partners dedicated to improving the lives of mountain peoples and protecting mountain environments around the world. Since then, December 11 is celebrated as “International Mountain Day” every year with a different theme.
In this context, as one of the newest members of the Mountain Partnership, Boğaziçi University Tourism Management Application and Research Center (TUYGAR), in cooperation with the FAO Turkey Office, an event called “2022 International Year of Mountains Panel” was organized on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Boğaziçi University South Campus in order to contribute to the dialogue on the values represented by the Year of the Mountain and the Day of the Mountain.
In the event that will last all day, presentations and panels were held within the scope of the program given in the attachment, and during the breaks and at the end of the event, the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other stakeholders of the subject was provided.
